Lisette van Gemert-Pijnen studied linguistics (psychological) of mental disturbances (aphasia) and obtained her PhD in development and implementation of protocols for infectious disease management (MRSA), she worked several years at the University of Twente. Today she is Associate Professor at the University of Twente, for technology in health Care. She founded and coordinates the first Center for eHealth Research and Disease Management (www.ehealthresearchcenter.nl). Several PhD-students participate in this Center, Lisette is their supervisor. Besides Lisette is responsible for several Master courses on eHealth and disease management at the University of Twente. The program of Lisette her research addresses Patient Care and Care coordination (professionalization, cost-reductions). The focus is on interactive technology to support disease management and/or self-care management; for instance web-based communication systems for shared care (care-management), e-coaching , e-consultation to enhance self-care and digital triage to enhance self-care and to realize cost savings.

Lisette collaborates with the University of Munster (Germany) to enhance patient safety (international project about Infectious Disease management) , with the University of Toronto ( Dr G Eysenbach, who is visiting professor of University of Twente) , University of Waterloo (Canada) and in several PhD-projects about Internet-based health programs for chronic care. Lisette is editor of the Journal of Medical Internet Research (IMP 3.6) and part of the scientific board of eTelemed conferences. She works with several national science institutes to develop a business model for eHealth applications for chronic care. She belongs to the board of the Dutch eHealth Society (www.nveh.nl). Lisette was involved in reviewing, editing of several papers for the Journal of medical internet research and she has published several papers in leading journals, she contributes to several international eHealth conferences.
