September 2009: Co-promotor of Dr. W.Zijlmans (thesis entitled “Infectious disease-related differences in the adaptation of glucose metabolism to fasting in children and the effect of age”).
Currently supervisor of 5 PhD students.
Participating in an European Systems Biology Consortium to attack the Metabolic Syndrome in obesity and act as the coordinator of one of the workpackages on determinants of peripheral insulin resistance in obese human subjects. Studies in collaboration with Dr. A. Vidal-Puig, Institute of Metabolic Science, University of Cambridge, UK and Prof. Dr. B. Kahn, Harvard University, USA are ongoing.
